Urban Lifestyle launched a new website!

Today Urban Lifestyle’s new website was launched. We have had a few different websites over the years. Started out with a simple WordPress template, then we tried out Joomla, after that we did our own html-site based mainly on social icons and aggregator feeds like Friendfeed to make things happen on the page and to show “our digital presence”.

Now we have returned to “good old” WordPress again and it feels like we have taken the best parts from all of our other versions and put them into this one. We still use social icons to let you know where you can find Urban Lifestyle on other digital platforms like for instance Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and Friendfeed, we have also integrated our Twitter feed so that you instantly see what we are up to. Besides that we finally have a corporate blog, we have had many different kind of blogs before but they have all been for different projects or not a “real” blog like the news section we had in our Joomla-version.

We have also added a “Portfolio” section to let people find out a bit more about what we have done in the past. To keep up with our plans at the moment and in the future, we will tell the world about them on many different places. As long as you follow my blog or any of the other tools we at Urban Lifestyle use you won’t miss out on it!

My chronicle in Metro Teknik today

Today my chronicle for the Swedish version of Metro Teknik came out (pdf). It was a challenge to have so few characters to play with. I’m more used to be able to write as long as I like, at least in our own trend reports. After a lot of “killing your darlings” I finally made it under 2600 characters. I tried to follow my own five golden rules:

  • Make it personal
  • Don’t be boring
  • Have something to say
  • Try to stick your chin out
  • End well!

Whether I succeeded or not is of course up to the reader to decide, but for being a first time chronicle-writer I think I made it pretty well. So what was it I tried to say? Well we at Urban Lifestyle often get the question when visiting a client or holding a seminar if we have any good examples of Swedish brand doing something innovative within the new media landscape. A lot of you out there have probably heard about classics like “Dell Hell“, the Jet Blue incident, how Zappos use blogs and other social media tools to involve their clients and not to forget Blendtec with its brilliant campaign Will it Blend. These are all american cases and I must say I don’t have that many Swedish ones that I can think of. Sure a lot of them have blogs and use microblogging services like Twitter, they might even have their own YouTube channel but there isn’t a lot of them doing something really interesting. This is what I tried to say in my column, it’s time for companies to dive into the the ocean called Internet and to swim around! Not only to take the safe trip with the same boat as every one else already have done. People try out different web services and play around with them every day. I wish companies weren’t so afraid to do the same thing. But then people out there also shouldn’t be so quick to judge if not everything goes as planned. The important thing is to give it a try don’t you think?

Enough with all this social media talk, all I want is for people in Sweden (not only companies) to do more interesting stuff on the web. There are things happening but I still think it’s going to slow so come on surprise me! :)

Me

So I finally got my own site lindapierre.com up and running. It’s been one of those things I’ve been having on my list to do for quite a while now. The hole point with this site is for others to get to know me better, by being able to read, watch, listen to stuff that I like. But also to see what I am doing right now and have been up to in the past, both in my personal life but mostly when it comes to the work that I do with Urban Lifestyle and other projects I am involved in.

Me and Tomas Nihlén started Urban Lifestyle back in 2006. Back then we used to call ourselves trend analysists focusing on new media. I remember when we in back in December 2006 went to visit a bunch of agencies in Stockholm (where we are from) and showed them a video we had made to illustrate the power of the consumer. The story was the one about Lonelygirl15 and how disappointed people got when it came out that it was all a fake. What we wanted to show was that people will from now on tell the world what they think about you, your brand, product or service and it’s up to you if you want to join the party or not. Anyhow it has been a journey scince then, we have changed direction a bit but it is still people that interest me the most.

I’ll make sure to tell you more about me further on. And also, I’m going to Barcelona in a few months so if you live there or just plan on going there for a weekend or so, send me a message on Twitter (@lindapierre).

Hasta luego!
