Today the Swedish online video streaming service Voddler “The magic world of movies” is being launched. So far it doesn’t work for Mac-users
but I’ve seen tweets about it being available for Mac users sometime during next week. If that’s true I’m a happy bee
According to an article in the Swedish newsmagazine DN Voddler will not only be about movies and TV-series but will also stream music in the future. This means an other Swedish well-known service, Spotify, will get some competition. Spotify is still way ahead when it comes to users and the amount of PR the service has gotten during these past few months. And I do belive in finding your nisch when it comes to the Internet, people want to go where the best content is. The fact that Voddler is aiming towards gather both movies, TV-shows and music in one place is interesting though.
I must say I’m a bit excited about this one and I have big expectations. The big question is will people be willing to pay for the service? The will use pre-roll ads in the movies but when you think about all the costs the service must have that probably won’t be enough. Like Spotify they will also have some sort of a premium version. If the service is really good and the library of movies is big enough I do think it has got a chance to survive. I think it’s important though to get the movies up there as quick as possible when released. If you could stream a movie as a premium user at the same time as it’s being released on theaters that would be something! But I suppose the movie industry hasn’t realized that DVD releases don’t have to come after the theaters, they are two different experiences. Only time will tell if the dreams over at Voddler will come true or not…
