Right on!

I saw this cartoon image on the Hubspot’s blog and I just had to post it here because it says it all. I have been working with digital media, or social media if you prefer calling it that, for 3 years now. At the beginning back in 2006 companies (in Sweden) looked like big question marks when we came and talked about the importance of blogs, video for the web and more.

Today “social media” is one of the absolute biggest buzz words on the Internet. At least amongst marketers. And that is what makes me a bit tired. Every time there’s a new era of how people communicate and/or consume media marketers see lots of money down the road. I would like the discussion to be more about how you can use social media as a way to learn more about people, give people what they want and to use when developing products and services. NOT only as a marketing tool to make people love your brand more and buy your products. I understand the importance of that to make a business go round but if companies would think more about what they actually could help people with instead of how to make them buy more, I think they actually would sell more in the end.

And also, I have decided not to make this yet another blog about social media but this one I just had to share with you. :)
